Stay Compliant: August 2025 Tax Deadlines & Extensions

As August 2025 rolls around, it's crucial for individuals and small businesses to be aware of the tax responsibilities due this month. Reporting July tips by August 11th is essential, alongside understanding special rules for disaster extensions and holidays. A minor misstep could have significant financial repercussions.

August 11 - Tip Reporting Obligation

Employees earning $20 or more in tips during July must report them to their employer using IRS Form 4070 by August 11th. Employers are responsible for withholding FICA taxes and income tax from your regular wages. If wages are insufficient to cover these withholdings, uncollected amounts will be noted in box 8 of your W-2, and you'll need to pay this when filing your yearly return.

Weekend and Holiday Adjustments

If a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or federally recognized holiday, the deadline is automatically extended to the next available business day that isn’t a legal holiday.
