Key Tax Deadlines for Individuals in February 2026

Stay ahead of your tax obligations in February 2026 with our comprehensive guide tailored for individual taxpayers. We'll walk you through essential deadlines, including options for estimated taxes, tip reporting rules, and W-4 updates.

February 2 - Last Chance for Estimated Tax Payments
If you haven’t settled your final estimated tax installment due by January 15, consider filing your 2025 income tax return (Form 1040 or 1040-SR) by February 2. By doing so, and settling any dues by January 31, you avoid penalties on late payment for the last installment. If February 2 doesn’t work for you, ensure your taxes are filed and paid by April 15.

February 10 - Reporting Tip Income for Service Employees

If you've received tips totaling $20 or more in January, report them to your employer using IRS Form 4070 or a signed statement including your personal and employer details, the period covered, and total tips received.

Your reported tips are subject to FICA and income tax withholding. Report accurately to avoid unexpected liabilities when you file your tax return. Insufficient wages to cover these withholdings will be detailed in Box 8 of your W-2, requiring settlement upon filing your annual return.

February 17 - Renewal of Withholding Exemption Status

Individuals who previously claimed an exemption from income tax withholding with a Form W-4 must submit a new Form W-4 by February 17 to maintain this status for the coming year.

Handling Weekend and Holiday Extensions

If a due date lands on a weekend or legal holiday, it automatically extends to the next business day. Be mindful of these adjustments as you plan your deadlines.
